Spring Highlights: English Projects, Innovation, and New Beginnings Across the School

Innovation and Achievement in Secondary

This spring has been an exciting and enriching season for students at all levels, full of academic milestones and creative challenges that reflect their hard work and readiness for the future.

A Magical New Beginning in Infant School

Our Infant students said a fond farewell to their old friend Archie and welcomed a new magical companion – Greenman! To mark the occasion, we held a very special celebration where the children were introduced to Greenman and The Magic Forest, our new pre-primary Cambridge program. Through the adventures of Nico, Sam, and their forest friends, pupils will explore nature, learn about healthy habits, and develop their English in a fun and meaningful way. During the celebration, the children listened to the story of Greenman, ventured into his enchanted forest, and even had the chance to meet him! There were games, puzzles, face painting, and plenty of smiles as we officially began this exciting new journey.

Creativity and Collaboration in Primary

The primary students recently wrapped up a collaborative storytelling project that blended literacy with creativity. 3rd and 4th graders read and retold the stories to 1st graders using 3D detailed dioramas they made themselves inspired by Milton Travellers, combining reading comprehension with artistic expression.

In upper primary, 5th and 6th grade students completed a magical potions project inspired by the Harry Potter universe. After careful planning of how the potion looks, sounds, tastes, smells, and feels, what special power it gives, and a detailed recipe, they brought their potions to life and even designed adverts to convince their friends to buy their potion! A magical project that merged elements of their cooking unit, science, storytelling, and communication in English.

Both the 6th Grade students and 4th of ESO students demonstrated their language proficiency by sitting for the Cambridge English exams. These internationally recognized assessments are an important achievement in their English learning journey.

Innovation and Achievement in Secondary

A major highlight in secondary this term was when the group of 19 students from 4th of ESO applied their creativity and problem-solving skills in the school’s Shark Tank invention competition as part of their English projects. The chosen finalists were then taken to attend the Design Thinking workshop at the CIEC, which focused on sustainable innovation. After a tour of a 3D printing lab and exploring renewable energy projects, they took on a team challenge to design a marketing campaign for an eco-friendly cleaning product. Through the Design Thinking process, students demonstrated creativity, a strong awareness of environmental and social issues and their brilliant communicative abilities in English.

At the Bachillerato level, the second-year students were deeply engaged in preparing for their PAU exams while the first-year students participated in a work experience program, gaining practical insights into the professional world that complemented their classroom learning.

Wishing You a Wonderful Summer

This term’s accomplishments showcased the creativity, adaptability, and global awareness of our students. As the summer break approaches, look out for our English Summer Bulletin, which offers recommended reading lists, creative projects, and outdoor activities to help students keep up their English over the summer.

On behalf of the English Department and the Bilingual Programme, we would like to thank all our students and families for a fantastic term. Have a safe, relaxing, and well-deserved summer break—we look forward to seeing you all again in September, ready for more learning adventures!
