Santa Gemita School Garden: Experiential Learning and Intergenerational Connection

In the mixed 1 and 2 year old classroom at Escuela Infantil Santa Gemita we continue to focus on life experiences that connect our little ones with their surroundings, fostering respect for nature, teamwork and bonds between stages.

On this occasion, we took a very special trip to the school's "Gemi Huerto," a space cared for by some of the older students. They accompanied and guided us through an activity full of learning: planting tomatoes, onions, and beans, as well as zucchini, peppers, and eggplant.

With their help, the younger children prepared the soil, carefully placed the seeds, and watered them with enthusiasm, experiencing the process with great excitement and curiosity.

The activity was full of meaning: the children explored textures, shared moments of play and observation, but above all, they enjoyed the support of their elders, who became close and attentive role models. It was exciting to see how such a natural connection developed between them. Some learned to care for plants, while others discovered the world through new eyes.

We returned to the classroom with slightly dirty hands, dirt on our shoes, and many stories to tell. Now we eagerly await the sprouting of the seeds we planted together, so we can continue nurturing them together.
